Alpena High School is Ryan French's alma mater. Ryan recently moved back to Alpena with his wife, Stephanie, and two children. The Alpena golf team holds some of his favorite memories from high school. Bus trips across the state with friends and oach Gapske to tee it up on a freezing cold fall morning are still some of Ryan's favorite times in golf. To be able to give back to the team that helped shape his golf life has been one of the most rewarding aspects of Drive Fore The Future.
The golf team always had just the basics; Ryan remembers carrying a 15-year-old bag while all the other teams had the new Ping hoofers. He wanted to make sure the foundation could change that. Over the last couple of years, Drive Fore the Future has purchased bags, shirts, rain suits, umbrellas and pullovers for the girls' and boys' teams. Those things are vital for the crisp, cold mornings of Midwest high school golf.
Last year, two members of the girls' team qualified for the state finals for the first time in school history.
