For the first time in 17 years, Hillman Community Schools relaunched its golf program for the 2023-2024 season, but starting from scratch came with significant challenges. In a small, rural community with limited resources, funding a new program wasn’t easy. The team relied on donated, decades-old clubs—many of which were older than the players using them. Some students had to borrow equipment or work jobs to afford their own, and with no indoor practice facility available, early-season training took place in the school library using foam golf balls and chipping nets. Despite these obstacles, the passion for the game was strong, and the team was determined to make it work.
Recognizing the need, Drive Fore The Future, in partnership with Callaway, stepped in to provide support. The Hillman team received 11 complete sets of golf clubs, 24 dozen golf balls, and plenty of tees to help equip them with the resources they need to compete. With proper gear in hand, these young golfers now have a greater opportunity to develop their skills and enjoy the game for years to come.
